Free Sheep's Milk Soap Giveaway

Here's giveaway #3:

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I've launched a project with Kickstarter.com to raise funds to get the equipment and supplies necessary to start making all of my luscious sheep's milk soap right here on the farm instead of hiring an outside crafter to make it for me.

The Kickstarter projects work on an all-or-nothing funding scale.  Which means I have to meet my $500 funding goal by November 15th, or none of the funding goes through.

If you help fund this project, there are lots of great rewards, including selections of our soaps and even a 2-day sheep farm adventure where you and a friend can join us here on the farm for two days during lambing season in April.

To encourage people to help me spread the word about this project, I'm also offering a giveaway:

If the Kickstarter project meets its funding goal by the November 15th deadline, I will give away a free bar of our luscious handmade sheep's milk soap to FIVE different people.

To enter, all you have to do is comment on this blog post.

But remember, the giveaway only happens if If the Kickstarter project meets its funding goal.  Help us reach our goal by forwarding this page to your friends and family, Tweeting about this giveaway, posting a link to this page on your own blog or Facebook wall, etc.

One entry per person for each giveaway, but you can enter all three of our current giveaways if you like:

  1. It would be fun to try this soap. Maybe it would inspire me to try and make sheep milk soap from my own ewes!

  11. My husband and I are just looking into sheep. How well do you like your Icelandics and how much milk do you normally get? Do you have to keep the lambs away the whole time?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hi Rosie. I LOVE my Icelandics. They are so versatile, and provide such a variety of products for us.

I'm not trying to be a sheep dairy, so I don't milk them daily. I only milk them a couple of times, to stockpile enough milk to make my soap. On those days I keep the lambs away from the ewes overnight and milk the ewes in the morning. The rest of the time the lambs are with the ewes, getting all the milk.

I've been told by people who do use Icelandics specifically as dairy animals that 1 quart per milking is their average production.

Most of mine, who are not milked regularly and who are not on improved (legume rich) pastures give less than that.

  15. Thank you ,Nancy! We ended up rescuing two Tunnis sheep and were hoping to milk them as well. I'm not expecting much but I wanted to get information from someone who actually milks sheep. I also weave and was wondering about getting sheep for wool. It looks like if you make fabulous items with your wool!! Do you use a drop spindle or a wheel? Do you ever dye your own fleece?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I use a Schacht double treadle wheel, which I love. I found drop spindles very slow and frustrating, but spinning with the wheel is soothing.

Lots of people do dye Icelandic fleeces, but I don't. I love working with all the natural colors from my flock, so I haven't ventured into dyeing yet.

  17. If more folks would try hand crafted soap, there wouldn't be any detergent soaps for sale in the stores. Good success on your soap and on your projects, from another Virginian.

  24. I've tried goat milk soap and it completely healed the 8 year remnants of a chemical burn, so I wonder if sheep milk soap would do the same!

  27. Sheepmilk soap..
How interesting. I plan to buy some for myself for my birthday.. my poor dear ewes are barren and so no possibility of lambs/milk here.
Good luck with all your ventures

  31. I do love handmade soaps. My skin started being sensitive a couple of years ago, and I have to be very careful about the dyes and perfumes in my soap. Probably for the best, as it gives me an excuse to buy the nice soap.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Congrats on reaching your kickstarter goal. I'd love to try a bar of the sheep's-milk soap. I tend to have sensitive skin, so a new all-natural product sounds inviting.
